I have been meaning to get my blog all caught up before now, but it has just taken a while. We have been so busy since arriving here in Pennsylvania. It isn't that we are doing a whole lot of stuff, we are just living and having a good time!
So, during the drive out here, we had a pretty good time. Granted we were traveling with three kids ages four and under, so we did have our melt down moments and moments of frustration. But overall, the experience was definitely one to remember! It took us about four days of driving to get here. We did have to make quite a few stops to go to the bathroom and move around a bit. We managed to find campgrounds at night where we were able to just set up the tent and camp out. Two of the three nights we stayed in the tent. The last night the police officer convinced Eric to get a hotel. There is a story that goes along with that! We pulled into the tiniest town you could imagine. Here we are in this little town, setting up our tent in the very corner of the city park, and what do you know, the one car that happened to drive by was a cop car! He saw us partly because the truck lights were on in the pitch dark, and too because we weren't really trying to hide. He pulled up next to the truck and got out to talk to us. He didn't like the idea of us camping out despite the fact that it was already like eleven at night and we would have left by six in the morning! He basically said that we needed to move on and find a hotel for the night. So, we load the beyond tired girls into the truck and have to drive another fifteen minutes before we found a hotel that was open. We did find one, and got situated for the night and had a great nights sleep! Eric and I were both pleasantly surprised at how well the girls did during the trip out here!! We are happy we were able to make the trip a pleasant experience!
The girls look like little orphans with messy hair and dirty faces. Why bother cleaning up when we were in the car pretty much all day for four days!
Part of what made the trip so pleasant was the fact that we had the laptop and movies for the girls to watch! I don't know my parents ever traveled so much with five kids and no portable DVD players! We also stopped at parks and played a bit. Driving seems to put the girls to sleep too, so they spent quite a bit of time sleeping. It was fun to see so many beautiful states! We were so floored at all the fields of corn and other crops!! It is so very pretty! I don't think it holds a candle to Alaska, but it truly is beautiful out here! And it was pretty incredible traveling through six states in four days!! What a grand adventure we had during our trek out to our new place of residence for four years!
